Ruby is the only gemstone in the Corundum family which has its own unique name than been called by the colour it represents (e.g: Blue Sapphire, pink sapphire, yellow sapphire etc)
Its rarity sets it apart from the other sapphires in its family. To be called a “Ruby”, a sapphire should have the right amount of RED hue in the stone. Many pink Sapphires are sometimes referred to as Ruby, though they are actually Slightly reddish Pink Sapphires! These are not the same as a Genuine Ruby and can fetch much less than a Ruby.
