The rarest sapphire of all sapphires, also known as the “King Sapphire” or the King of Sapphires is a Sapphire which displays the colour often described as the colour of the “Sunset” or even “Sunrise” depending on the shade (Pinkish – Orange or Orangish – Pink)

Traditionally the name Padparadscha is derived from the Sinhalese words “Padma – Raga” meaning: Lotus Blossom. (Aquatic lotus blossom to be more specific). Though found in other countries, this stone is special to Sri Lanka and the most beautiful Sapphires come out of the town Ratnapura (meaning: Ratna (Gem) Pura (City) )
